Best Time to Visit: April, May, June, and October to November offer slightly cooler weather for exploring.
Language: French is the official language, but English is widely spoken.
Currency: USD is accepted at resorts. Carry local currency for smaller purchases. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
Island Hopping Tips: Island hopping is a must-do. Use Cat Cocos ferries for trips between Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue. Book early as ferries fill up quickly, especially in high season. For budget travelers, consider day tours, though these can be expensive. Check travel restrictions before planning your stay on multiple islands, as rules change frequently.
Hiring a Car: Rent a car to explore Mahe. We recommend Doffay Rental Car for its excellent service and reasonable prices. An automatic Hyundai i10 is ideal for navigating the island’s winding roads. Pick up the car at the airport to avoid high resort transfer fees.
Solo Travel: Seychelles is safe for solo travelers, offering a secure and friendly environment.
Budget Travel Tips:
- Stay in self-catered apartments.
- Use public transport (SPTC) for cheap travel; buses cost SCR 7.
- Explore independently and enjoy free activities like hiking and beach hopping.
Vegetarian & Vegan Food: Opt for half-board at resorts for convenience. While outside dining is affordable, check for vegetarian-friendly restaurants. We enjoyed excellent fresh meals, including custom dishes from the chef.
Where We Stayed: We stayed at Kempinski Seychelles on Baie Lazare Beach, a serene 30-minute drive from the airport. The resort offered luxury, excellent service, and a range of water activities. The room had breathtaking views, and the staff were exceptional.
Highlights:
- Arrival and Exploration: Enjoy the scenic drive from the airport to Kempinski and relax with a kayak tour.
- La Digue and Praslin: Explore La Digue by bike, visit the Aldabra Tortoise, and discover Anse Source d’Argent. In Praslin, visit the Vallee de Mai and Anse Lazio for stunning beaches and unique flora.
Hiking the Dan Gallas Trail: For a true adventure, hike the Dan Gallas Trail in Morne National Park. The challenging trail offers breathtaking views but requires careful navigation.
Exploring East and West Mahe: Visit the Port Launay Mangrove Forest and the elusive Grand Anse Waterfalls. Relax at Grand Anse Beach and Anse Royale, where you’ll find stunning scenery and solitude.
Final Thoughts: Seychelles is a fantastic destination for relaxation and adventure. While it can be pricey, careful planning will ensure a memorable trip. Whether you’re lounging on pristine beaches or hiking through lush forests, Seychelles offers a unique and unforgettable experience.
